Tips on making a PowerPoint presentation
A Power Point Presentation is one of the innovative and common ways in presenting an idea to the public. These presentations are done to catch the interest of the listeners, and also to aid in understanding the explanation of the speaker. However, there are people who don't know how to make a power point presentation. They do know the basic in making a presentation but they don't know how to present the contents of the information.
In making a Power Point presentation, the most important thing you need to consider is the content. The title of the presentation must be large enough to be read. However, repetition of the title throughout the whole presentation is not necessary. The content must also be concise and at the same time covers all of the points of your speech. Words presented on the slides must be brief. It may be phrases, group of words, or quotations but never put an entire paragraph on the slide.
The use of the slide is to serve as your guide and not an idiot board for your speech. Still, many people are doing this because they are tired of practicing their speech. When doing Power Point presentations, keep in mind that you do the talking and not the slides of your presentation.
Another important thing to consider when doing presentations is the clarity or visibility of the fonts. Make sure that the fonts are big enough for the readers at the back and small enough to fit the ideas of what you are trying to say. It is awkward if the fonts are too big that you need two slides to convey a single sentence. It is also awkward if the fonts are too small that even your listeners at the front row cannot read your slide.
If you are making a formal type of presentation, it is necessary that the fonts you use are conventional ones such as Times New Romans or Arial. Avoid using fonts that have too many effects and curves such as Curlz. They may look beautiful but it may be inappropriate for the occasion. If it is an informal one, you may use a variety of fonts to suit your personality and to express yourself freely. Another thing to consider when it comes to font is its consistency throughout the slide. It is better if the headings are slightly bigger in size than the body to emphasize the main idea in the slide. Inconsistencies in font size are an eye sore and may cause inattentiveness among the readers.
Another thing to consider when it comes to font is its orientation on the page. It is better if words on the slide have only a single orientation. Different word orientation tends to make the readers position their heads in an angle that they enable them to read the words you placed. When doing formal presentation, I suggest that you avoid placing animations on the words. As we all know, you can put animations on words and objects in the presentation. However, it is better if you don't put animations on it.
If you really want to put in an animation, make it as simple as possible by considering options such as zoom in, zoom out, crawl from the left, or crawl from the right. Consider also the pictures that you are going to put on your slides. Pictures are not bad. In fact, they aid in providing an overview of the idea you are trying to convey. Just make sure that the pictures are appropriate or have connection to the idea on the slide. Make sure that it is balanced with the number of words on the slide. If you do, you will be making a picture book rather than a good presentation.
